Stephan Wolley, 27, lost his life in a crash in Temple Hills on Saturday, Feb. 11, leaving behind his parents, siblings, and a 3-year-old daughter, according to his family.
As previously reported by Daily Voice, Wolley was fatally wounded in a crash after crossing the center line and striking an SUV on Temple Hill Road following a birthday celebration for his father, Raynard Sr.
The driver of the SUV was not injured in the collision.
"It is most befitting of Stephan that he spent what would become his final hours with his family", stated Stephan's mother. "In celebration of Stephan’s father, Raynard Sr., Stephan laughed, danced, and sang the night away with family and friends.
"In his typical humorous nature, Stephan toasted his dad remarking on the great example of a hardworking, family man his dad is and also cautioning in jest, not to be fooled by his dad’s professional exterior."
The gentle giant was a loyal protector to his family and frequently acted as guardian and comedic relief for his loved ones. As a child, he was baptized as a member of Christ Church of Light and Salvation and sang in a gospel duo with his eldest brother.
Wolley spent his early childhood homeschooled by his family before going on to earn a football scholarship at St. John's College High School, where he graduated in 2014, his family said.
Wolley's commitment and loyalty were just as strong on the field as it was off, earning him a scholarship to Millersville University where he played college football.
The talented player then moved on to his next role in life, the father of a now 3-year-old daughter Francesca, who he spent weekends with playing outside and keeping active.
"Stephan took his role as daddy very seriously; obliging her every request to play the villain in their games of Spiderman who could not just lose the battles gracefully", stated Stephan's family.
"He had to dramatically crash down in defeat even in the most public places in every game. He put on the grandest of spectacles just to make his daughter smile."
Stephan Wolley's family has set up a GoFundMe to help raise funds to cover the unexpected costs associated with his tragic loss. Any excess funds will be set aside in a trust for his daughter.
A service for Stephan will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria.
